Kring Historische Rekeninstrumenten (Dutch Circle for Historical Calculating Instruments), formerly the Dutch Circle of Slide Rule Collectors. KRING was founded in 1991, The Dutch Circle has grown into an informal group of about 60 collectors, many of which are influential authors and may be seen in the ISRM Slide Rule Who's Who gallery.

Ahrend

The N.V. Wed. J. Ahrend & Zoon (The Widow J. Ahrend & Son, Ltd) is a Dutch office supply house founded nn 1896 by 18-year-old Jacobus Ahrend. He first started an office stationery shop at Singel 24 in Amsterdam, under his mother's name. Ahrend soon expanded the range of goods carried to include drawing tables, drawing requisites, collotype machines (a precursor of the photocopier) and water levels. In the 1920s, Ahrend started to sell office furniture and soon saw a rapid increase in the numbers sold. The initial furniture was all made of wood, but it was not long before steel furniture was added to the range. Steel furniture was later banned because of WWII. Ahrend celebrated its centenary in 1996, and in that year it was given permission to carry the predicate 'Koninklijk' (Royal). Ahrend were no instrument makers, but re-sellers as can be seen below where rebranded slide rules were made in Japan and Germany. In 1957 Ahrend opened their own workshop where theodolites, levels, binoculars, planimeters, microscopes and nautical equipment could be repaired, tested, and adjusted.3 That workshop was thus only for maintenance, not to produce new instruments. In 1962 Ahrend bought shares from instrumentmaker De Koning, a firm that actually fabricated geodetic instruments. Ahrend was the main supplier of survey instruments to Dutch governmental departments. Already in 1922 the instruments supplied by them were used by the topograhical service (both in the Netherlands and in the former colony Indonesia), the survey department of the ministry of transport and public works, the Engineering Corps of the army, the state mines in the Province of Limburg and the public works department of Amsterdam.

Muiderkring was a publishing company specialising in electronics. They published books, magazines and also sold two slide rules. The designs in their books and magazines generally used the components produced by the Dutch Amroh company. Both firms were located in Muiden, the Netherlands.
