Further comments I bought this 379 because of the magnifying cursor. It actually came with 2 cursors: a normal one and a magnyfing one. Most likely the owner bought the magnifying cursor later as an option (Faber-Castell sold these cursors separately).

The 2 379's look very similar (as you would expect as they differ only 3 years in age). There are however a number of small differences, that are to a certain degree puzzling, just because they are so small:

different gauge marks

  • a difference in length of 8 mm
  • a different back
  • a different box
  • Variation 1 is made in Bavaria

The name of the owner is scratched in the back and printed on the box:
