Further comments This is an very old English version of the 360.  On the slide rule itself there is no type number, but the box has a label "360".  The 2 sides of the rule are plain boxwood, no celluloid layer on them. There is no mark on the back with the year of manufacturing, but looking at the typeface used on the box and the slide rule, it must be considerably older than 1920. The box refers to a Award from 1900, so it must be after 1900.

There are no re-inforcement rods in the wood of the slide rule. The FC patent that describes this inventions is 206428 from 1907. This suggests that this version of the 260 was made between 1900 and 1907. Also the bottom of the stator is not split; the FC patent for a split bottom with springs is from 1908.

Further comments Although this version is from the same year as variation 3, there are again interesting differences:

It is an English version with an inch-scale on the top and English tables on the back.

It has 5 adjustment screws in the bottom to adjust the width of the well. This is very peculiar as this screw mechanism is mainly used with the long 20" slide rules. I have never seen it yet with a 10" slide rule.
